A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death by cultists in Calabar, Cross River State, because he refused to join their group.
A 14-year-old boy whose name was given as David Okon, has been stabbed to death for refusing to join a cult group called Skylo, after entreaties by the members for him to be a part of the society.
The incident which happened in Ikot Ekpo community in Calabar, Cross River State, has thrown the residents into shock and many are wondering why the boy who described as very religious and studious could be the target of the cultists.
The state Commissioner of Police, Henry Fadairo, confirmed the incident and said the lad was stabbed to death by one Ita, a suspected of the cult group.
Fadairo said that Ita, along with other members of the group, tried to lure David into joining them after their first trial failed. Upon his refusal, the deceased was stabbed to death.
He also paraded some of the cult goup members who were arrested in the course of investigation whose names were given as Okon, 15, Effiong, 18, Etim, 18 and Ekpo, 15.
Ita, the prime suspect allegedly confessed to stabbing the teenager to death:
"I am a member of Skylo group. We used to terrorize Calabar residents. When Okon was called to join the Skylo group, we started putting pressure on him to join.
When he was adamant by refusing to join us, we had to murder him by stabbing him on the back."
