Dismissed army officer arrested for armed robbery

IGP Suleiman Abba
(Nigeria Police Force)
An army officer gone bad has been nabbed for armed robbery after his love for cocaine consumption led to his troubles.

A dismissed Lance Corporal in the Nigerian Army, Ugochukwu Williams, has been arrested for armed robbery alongside two members of his gang, Obinna Aku and Chibuzor Obeta.

The former army officer however narrated how his love for cocaine use ruined his life and career, leading him into crime.

Vanguard Newspaper reports that on March 16, 2015, Williams and Aku had robbed a man, stole his i-Phones, and a Blackberry and a Honda EOD vehicle at gun point.

Realising that the victim had only N1,000 on him, Williams, a father of one who hails from Enugu State, took the victim to a nearby bank to withdraw cash.

But when they were unable to withdraw any cash from the machine, the suspects took the man's vehicle to Akala area of Mushin where they dismantled it and sold it in spare parts to traders in Ladipo market.

But a few days later, the victim on his way to work around Ojuelegba when he identified one of the suspects who robbed him and he immediately alighted from the commercial bus, headed straight to where that suspect was standing, and raised alarm.

The police at Olosan Division were later invited and the suspect was arrested, while his accomplice, Obinna, was arrested two days later.

Confessing to the crime and other robberies, Williams said they had a revolver pistol with six rounds.

He also lamented his addiction to cocaine as the bane of his problems.

"I do buy a pinch of cocaine at Akala area in Mushin for N300 and the effects wears off within three seconds.

The pathetic aspect was that I spent my entire salary buying cocaine. The urge to get a pinch of the substance drove me to crime. I never had it in mind to go into robbery.

Now my addiction has ruined my life and career."

Woman jailed for sleeping with her father, having 2 kids for him

A father and daughter who have been sleeping together and having two kids have been sentenced to prison.

A 25-year-old woman from Oregon in the USA, Chalena Moody, has been sentenced to 10-days prison sentence and an 18-month probation period for having an incestuous relationship with her biological father, Eric Lee Gates, 49, leading to the two having children together, reports Daily Mail.

Moody also had a third child for her father but the baby died at birth and now, the state has now taken custody of the two children, who face a number of medical problems.

Her father Gates is currently serving a 60-day prison sentence for violating his earlier probation and moving in with Moody.

He was also required to pay restitution to the State of Oregon to help cover the medical expenses of the two children.

Gates was in and out of prison when Moody was growing up and did not have custody of the child. The pair got in touch in the past few years when the relationship began. Both confessed to the relationship and confirmed that the babies were their own.

Atiku Abubakar congratulates Gen. Buhari on his victory

The former Vice President wrote a congratulatory message to Buhari which he shared on Facebook. See it below...

My hearty congratulations to His Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari, for being elected the next president of our beloved county, Nigeria. You have led our party, the All Progressives Congress to an unprecedented victory within two years of it’s official formation, and in so doing, written the most important chapter of our democracy.
The great Nnamdi Azikiwe once wrote that “history will continue to vindicate the just”. Your victory in the polls, with votes from across the length and breadth of our country, bears witness to the acceptance of not just our party, the APC, but also your ideology of justice, fair play and zero tolerance for corruption as the bedrock for national rebirth.

At this historic moment, it is most important to say a hearty thank you to every Nigerian who voted for the APC. Your votes have not just elected the first opposition party into federal power, but has also set a precedent which will have positive implications for democracy across Africa.

Dear GMB, the journey has just begun. Millions of Nigerians have put their trust in you, because they were not satisfied with the status quo. You represent the hope of a new generation of Nigerians, and you cannot afford to fail them. Our party has made a promise of change to our young people, to secure and rebuild our country, create jobs and opportunity, and improve citizens’ welfare. We will stand behind you to ensure we keep those promises, just like we did during these elections.

Our country needs a new direction. We have voted for you, and our party won the election, but when you assume our highest office, you must become the president of not just the APC, but all of Nigeria, including the people who did not vote for you. We look up to you to heal the fractures of our country, and truly unite this country like never before.

To President Jonathan, I want to specially thank you for conducting a historic election. Your party may have lost the elections, but you have won the admiration of the world by not interfering with the wishes of Nigerians. History will be kind to you.

It is my sincere hope that we will all come together as one country, to build the Nigeria of our dreams.
God bless Nigeria.

Armed robbers rape 7 women during deliverance vigil in church.

Vanguard reports that, the robbers were said to have earlier raided a building near Ewuotubu community where they robbed some tenants living in four different flats in the compound.
It was learnt that two persons, including a police officer, were shot dead while others sustained various degrees of injuries in the process..

What was supposed to be an all-night marathon prayer session , tagged ‘Koboko Night’, meant to cast out demons tormenting some members of the church, turned sour as the masked armed robbers, numbering six, shot sporadically, ordering the members to go back to the church shortly after they said the final prayers to depart the church.

The robbers had, on storming the church premises, rained bullets on the roof and ordered members to lie down. Consequently, they raped the women.

One of the victims, who narrated her ordeal to Sunday Vanguard, said,

“Though I was not raped, I was beaten mercilessly when they were asking us to identify the pastor and we refused. After collecting our phones, money and jewelleries, they ordered some of the ladies to undress. They threatened to kill them if they refused and, of course, they removed their clothes and were raped one by one.
“It was actually two churches that they attacked. They raped five women in our church. Later, we found out that they raped two others in a church close to ours. They ransacked the church and collected any cash they found and escaped. It was a horrible sight”.

The raped women are said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital on Ekenwan Road, Benin City
Seven ladies who went for night vigil for deliverance in a new generation church, located at 2nd Cemetery Road, Benin-City, were allegedly raped by armed bandits who stormed the church at about 4am on Thursday.

Police arrest Man and Baboon over N230k robbery(Photo)

An interesting drama played out in Lagos recently, after some criminals who were with two baboons waylaid a man as he was coming out from the bank at Ogba area of the state. The unsuspecting victim who withdrew the sum of N230,000 from the bank was shocked when he stepped out only to see some roughly dressed young men with two giant-sized baboons starring at him menacingly. Without blinking an eyelid, the man took to his heels, abandoning his bag of money.

Crime Guard gathered that the bandits used their baboons to scare the victim after driving close to the banking premises with an unregistered Nissan Primera. It was learnt that two of the suspects alighted from the vehicle with two baboons and ambushed the man as he was coming out of the banking hall after withdrawing the money from his account. The victim reportedly was frightened and dropped the nylon bag containing the cash on the ground and ran for dear life.

DRAMA AS FLEEING SUSPECT SPRAY CASH
While running, the victim discovered that the suspects who took the nylon containing his cash was also running with the baboon towards the opposite direction and he went after him. On realising that the victim was coming after him, the suspect took some of the money from the bag and threw it at the victim who immediately bent down to pick the naira notes which littered the floor, a move the suspect capitalised on to escape into a waiting vehicle with his baboon.
It was learnt that as soon as the suspect and his baboon got into the waiting vehicle, the driver zoomed off abandoning the baboon and his colleague identified as Mohamed Nafiu and at the crime scene. An angry mob that was attracted to the scene nearly lynched both Mohammed and the baboon but the fierce -looking baboon stood stoutly in defence of his master and succeeded in warding off intending attacks, till policemen who were earlier invited arrived the scene and apprehended the suspect.

SUSPECT’S ACCOUNT
Confessing to the crime, Mohamed Nafiu told Crime Guard :
“I am from Gdala Local Government Area in Kano state. I am married with two children. I am a farmer but later, I began to sell herbal medicines for Malaria, typhoid, hypertension and body pains. After a while, I decided to relocate to Lagos to enable me have more patronage. But before I came to Lagos, I bought a baby baboon as a pet that was a year and eighteen months and started training him.
I came to Lagos almost ten years ago with the baboon and used it for entertainment and for showmanship while selling my herbal medicine. It was during that period that I met Nura, the leader of the gang, who also has a baboon. He was the person that brought the idea of using the baboon to frighten and rob victims. After the first operation, I quit selling my herbal medicine because it was not as lucrative as robbing. I have participated in over ten robbery operations using baboon within Lagos.’’
MODE OF OPERATION
“We use the two baboons each time we want to rob victims. Nura and I would alight from the vehicle with the baboons while a hired driver will be on the alert to drive off. We purposely hire different vehicles for the operation so that we would not be traced.
We pay the driver in advance before each operation and also pay him after each operation. Usually, we operate in areas where we assume victims will be in possession of cash and where it will be easy to escape after the operation, like: banks and shopping malls.
The baboons have been trained to scare victims and snatch their valuables and they do whatsoever we tell them to do.
We pay each hired driver based on the time contracted because of the risk involved, once the time is up, he zooms off with or without us. Also before the operation, we agree on the amount, we give the driver advance payment for fuel then pay up after the job.
I met Nura in Lagos several years back and my fortunes changed as I was constantly having cash with me. Immediately I saw the police officers, I surrendered myself to them and also assisted the officers in hand- cuffing the baboon.
Crime Guard learnt that the case was still under investigation and efforts are currently in top gear to arrest those who are on the run.

Baby with two horns born in Osun(Graphic Photos)

There has been shock and fear ,over a strange baby born at a maternity centre (name withheld) situated at Ifosan area of Ilesa, in Osun State.

Speaking with Saturday Tribune during the visit on Thursday, the proprietress, (she is called matron by her staff) said  the woman who gave birth to this deformed baby was “about 25 years old and she has been without a child for three years.”

She explained that

“this woman lives in one of the farm settlements on the outskirt of Ilesa. She registered for antenatal service here. So, when she wanted to put to bed, her relatives rushed her here to deliver the baby.

“But we were shocked to the marrow when she eventually delivered the baby with two horns on the head after going into labour for some hours. By the time she was delivered of the baby, it was already dead and we had to separate it from the placenta.
“I have never seen such a terrible creature in my life. So, we helped to pack the dead baby and the placenta and handed them over to them before they left our premises. It was indeed a fearful development and we were saddened about it.

“This is not something we can celebrate. So, I ordered by nurses and other attendants to keep their mouth shut over the incident. But, I am very surprised how you people got to know about it and came here to inquire about it. I do not want anyone to make something unnecessary out of this or create problems for us here,” she stated.

She would not disclose the whereabouts of the woman who delivered the baby.

“I cannot give you any details about her. Like I told you, she lives in one of the farm settlements on the outskirts of Ilesa and I don’t really know the area and I want you to leave me out of this matter,” she added.

The woman who froze when she was shown the photographs of the baby, however, confirmed its genuineness but asked how Saturday Tribune got them. A staff  member of the clinic also showed Saturday Tribune her own photos of the baby taken with her phone.

All efforts to locate the exact location of the baby’s mother and her identity were not successful.

Card reader hiccups avoidable - PDP. Warns against under-aged voters

Press statement from the PDP. Read below...

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the poor working of the Permanent Voter Card readers in Saturday's Presidential and National Assembly elections across the country could have been avoided if INEC had listened to sound advice from well meaning individuals and organizations including the PDP regarding their deployment without proper testing.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Saturday said the last minute resort to manual accreditation by INEC hours into the exercise against its earlier guidelines clearly shows the failure of the system.

"The unfortunate development is a vindication of our earlier position that as good as the idea of card readers is, it was too virgin to be successfully used in a general election without proper testing especially in an environment as ours that is not entirely digitally proficient”, it said.

The party described as a huge national embarrassment the that the card reader had problems in accrediting President Goodluck Jonathan, Governors Jonah Jang, of Plateau, James Ngilari of Adamawa, Isa Yuguda of Buachi among others and called for thorough explanation from INEC.

The PDP equally frowned at reported cases of accreditation of under-aged persons in some states especially in the northern part of the country and called on INEC not only to ensure that such unqualified persons are not allowed to vote but also to prosecute its officials involved in the crime.

The ruling party said it is seriously concerned about the developments given the avowed commitment of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration to hitch-free, fair and credible electoral process.

It charged the electoral commission to take urgent steps within the law to ensure that no willing and qualified voter is disenfranchised, while urging Nigerians to remain calm in the overall interest of the nation.

Graphic photos: APC members shot dead in Rivers state, many arrested

I just received gruesome photos of dead men and a press statement from the APC in Rivers state. Looks like election in some areas in the state was very violent. Read statement below and see the pics after the cut.. *viewer discretion advised*

Today’s presidential and National Assembly elections have turned out to be a big nightmare for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, with the members being killed, attacked and disenfranchised in various parts of the State.
“Armed militias working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified their killing of APC members. Scores have already been killed and several others marked for elimination. This morning in Kpite Town, Tai Ward 2 and other areas of the State, five people were shot dead by PDP’s armed militia, and that was before accreditation commenced,” Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said in a statement in Port Harcourt. Pictures of our killed members are attached.
Lamenting his party’s ordeal, Ikanya said: “It is sad that PDP and its collaborators are targeting APC strongholds and chieftains for attacks and killings. To intimidate our people and contrary to the court ruling forbidding the use of the Army in this election, there has been a massive deployment of soldiers in the State with clear instruction to shoot at sight any APC agent that refuses to comply with the evil plot of PDP to write the results of the election at some designated areas of the State in favour of PDP.”
Chief Ikanya gave the following specific horrifying examples of APC’s travails:
•Hon. Chidiebere Okwuwolu, former Commissioner and currently an APC leader, was arrested by police and taken to Olu Obasanjo Police Station in Port Harcourt along with 99 other arrested APC members scattered in various Police Stations in the State.

•At Ubima, the home town of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, the INEC results sheets are currently with Chief Nyesome Wike, the guber candidate of PDP in Rivers State. Governor Amaechi has refused to embark upon any accreditation because of lack of result sheets in all the polling units in the State, a situation contrived by INEC and PDP to make room for PDP to rig the election.

•At Andoni, the Local Government Area of Rivers State APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and Chief Uche Secondus, the National Vice Chairman of PDP and his cousin, Engr Tele Ikuru (the Deputy Governor of Rivers State who few days defected to PDP) hell has been let loose; electoral materials have been hijacked by PDP agents in connivance with the Army that has been threatening to arrest and kill any APC chieftains in sight.
•The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Andoni Local Government area, Esuku Esuku, has been ordered out of Ngo, headquarters of Local Government, by the Joint Task Force (JTF)/army personnel deployed to Ngo, or be killed. •At Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government, materials are being distributed from the house of Minister of Sports, Chief Tammy Danagogo, instead of the INEC office, without any security personnel. Danagogo has held the policemen that ought to escort these materials to the polling units hostage and injuring DPO of Abonnema, Mr. Joseph Kayode for daring to accompany Hon Isobo Jack the Commissioner for Urban Development to the Polling Unit, relevant pictures attached.

•PDP thugs hijacked materials and INEC personnel meant for Akuku-Toru Wards 15, 16 and 17. The hijacked materials and men were taken to Freetown, a hinterland coastal community. The attack was led by two youths whose identities are known.  •In Tombia, in same Akuku-Toru Local Government, PDP had by Friday night filled the community with Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) bouncers who were attacking APC members and, at the same time, preventing those returning home to vote from entering the town. They were doing so in the presence of soldiers who were too few in number. The Caretaker Committer Chairman and others were injured on Friday. The over 30 APC members that were to act as agents were arrested.    •In Buguma, which is the Headquarters of Asari-Toru Local government, policemen were busy all day arresting APC chieftains. •In Gokana Local Government, trained INEC ad-hoc personnel were replaced with untrained manpower suspected to be PDP members. This is believed to have been done in connivance with the LGA Electoral Officer (EO).

•At Opobo/Nkoro, the Local Government Area of Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, the gubernatorial candidate of APC, the house of Opobo/Nkoro Caretaker Committee Chairman, Loveday Jaja, was torched after he escaped to avoid being killed by the PDP hoodlums. Electoral materials meant for the Local Government Area have been diverted to John Africa/Ada Tom Pepple Compound area where they are thumb-printing in favour of PDP. One Barrister J.B Pepple was caught with stained thumbs and he admitted to thumb-printing. Another person Alafagha Oko-Jaja had his head broken head and he is seriously bleeding. No one is sure if he will survive. The army has been going around the community harassing people while Chiefs in Kalaibiama are compelling them to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan of PDP. This is said to be on the orders of Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Kenneth Minimah, who is also from the town.
Mr. Harold Peterside a PDP Agent in Unit 006 Ward, Oopbo/Nkoro was caught with INEC Register and fake Results Sheet at the Polling Unit.
•At Oyigbo LGA, 40,000 incident forms were being given out at 6:30 a.m. but they stopped when the APC Agent complained about it. He was however asked to leave the INEC office at about 11:30 a.m. Already, 120,000 incident forms have been to Port Harcourt LGA, 80,000 to Obio/Akpor and 50,000 to Ikwerre LGA. The incident forms are one of the ways PDP plans to use to rig the elections around the country, especially in the South South and South East.

•In Okrika, there was sudden change and appearance of fresh and inadequately trained INEC ad-hoc staff who tried to persuade voters to undergo manual accreditation, claiming that card readers assigned to Okrika LGA polling booths were not working (even without trying them). In a few units where APC supporters insisted on ‘No Card, No Accreditation’, the card readers mysteriously began to work. But in majority of the places manual accreditation is being undertaken. Also in Okrika, there is insufficient delivery of electoral materials by INEC. Up till now no one, not even party agents, has seen the original result collation sheets. The INEC officials claim it is not everything that they must explain. Meanwhile, INEC delivered incident forms far excess of the number of registered voters.

Meanwhile, PDP stalwarts are openly parading bundles of PVC cards in their possession. Rowland Sekibo, accompanied by police and PDP thugs armed with guns, are going around chasing away APC members from doing accreditation. They had done so in wards 1, 7, 8, 9 and 2. They tore the tags of our agents, beat them and chased them away, injuring scores of them.
“We condemn this brazen rape of democracy by PDP in collaboration with INEC and the security agents. It is unacceptable as this is not what democracy should be. PDP should allow Rivers people to vote without guns pointed at their throats,” Dr. Ikanya said in the statement.

Dr Ikanya passed a vote of no confidence on the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, declaring that she has failed woefully as she is bent on carrying out her secret agreement with PDP to return victory to the party at all cost. Whatever trash she will announce as the result of today’s election is not acceptable to us and we ask for her immediate transfer and a new date be set for a proper election in Rivers State than the sham and charade that was calculated to rubbish INEC and democracy.
The pictures of our killed members are attached.

EFCC denies freezing Father Mbaka's accounts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied reports that they froze the accounts of Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

There were media reports yesterday that Fr Mbaka had claimed during his sermon on Wednesday March 25th that the EFCC had frozen his bank accounts and that he was invited to their Port Harcourt office for questioning. He supposedly said he went to the bank on Tuesday March 24th to cash some money to buy foodstuff for the poor who had just returned to Enugu from the North and the cheque he presented was rejected.
EFCC Spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren released a statement late yesterday denying that the agency froze his account. See the statement after the cut..

"The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC has been drawn to reports in a section of the media claiming that the Commission had frozen the accounts of Enugu-based Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Mass fame. The commission wishes to state that there is no truth in the report and should be discountenanced.” the statement read

Couple having sex on moving motorbike caught by police after photo went viral

Imagine this! A couple who were photographed having sex on a moving motorbike (is that even possible?) traveling along a public road in India have been caught after a shocked motorist driving behind them took a photo and shared it on Facebook.

The man shared the photo and wrote "Have sex riding a bike ... No one will stop you ... This is Goa ... This broad daylight sex show took place right on the Mandovi bridge on Sunday afternoon. Not a single policeman on the way to stop them. A passer-by happened to click this picture. What do you have to say?"

After the pic went viral, Goa police swung into action and tracked down the couple using their number plate. But I don't even know why they bothered to because when they found the couple, they only fined them 1,000 Rs which is about $15.

You Can't be AGN president-Board of Trustees slam Emeka Ike

The Board of Trustees of the Actors Guild of Nigeria have slammed Emeka Ike over his statement the the executive of Actors Guild of Nigeria should  step down in accordance with the recent court ruling..While addressing journalists at a press conference today, the chairman,Prince Ifeanyi Dike said Emeka Ike ceased to be a member of the guild since 2009.He also said this was made clear when they published a disclaimer on him in a Newspaper.
He said...

“We have decided to talk to the press concerning what have been dished out by Emeka Ike concerning his litigation with the members of the Board of Trustees of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Emeka Ike has been telling the world that he has won his case against the Board of Trustees of the guild, and that he has been declared the President of the body.
We need to correct this falsehood deliberately being peddled around obviously for political gains of the bearer of the false information.”“
The truth is that Emeka Ike did not get any judgment or victory against members of the Board of Trustees of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. His case is suit No FHC/L/CS/365/2011 and it is still pending before Honourable Justice Tsoho of the Federal High Court Lagos.

It has been adjourned to Thursday April 16, 2015 for hearing of the objection filed by Emeka Ike against the appearance of our new counsel in the matter. If his case is still pending before the court, how can the same court declare him to be the President without deciding the matter finally? This is the central issue for resolution in that case.”

Explosion in Ogun community shatters teenager's arm

An explosion has shattered the arm of a teenager, Olawale Adekanbi, and caused confusion at the Agbado community in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The 17-year-old was said to be running an errand for his parents and saw a round object on the road which he reportedly kicked with his foot.

The Punch learnt that as the victim approached the main road, he decided to pick the object with his hand.Soon after he did, the object exploded. The victim’s palm was reportedly shattered, while he also sustained injuries in the legs. The incident happened on Saturday on Adiyan Road, Rafco bus stop, in the Agbado area.

Adekanbi, who is on admission at Dr. Happiness clinic, a local medical facility in the area, said he was returning from the errand when he found a “ball” and decided to play with it.He said

“When I woke up on Saturday, my dad asked me to run an errand for him. When I was retuning, around 9am, I saw something that looked like a ball on the road and I started kicking it and playing with it.When I approached the main road and saw many vehicles on the road, I decided to pick it up. As I picked it, it exploded in my hand and shattered my palm.”

Our correspondent learnt that a crowd of people, who heard the blast, gathered round the victim.
His parents were said to have been alerted, and they rushed to the scene and took him to the hospital.
The victim’s mother, Wunmi Adekanbi, said she also heard the deafening noise of the explosion.
She said,

“We were all in the sitting room that morning when his dad said the television was faulty and since it was election period, there was need to know what was going on.His dad said he should call the technician that would repair the TV.Some minutes later, we heard a blast and we were all frightened. People started screaming my son’s name and I rushed there. When I got there, his hand was gone.”

A resident, Opeifa Toriola, who said his office was far from the scene of the incident, told our correspondent the explosion shook the area, wondering how the victim survived the attack.

“My office is very far from where the explosion happened, but it shook everywhere. It still beats my imagination how he did not die. His palm was cut off, and he also sustained injuries in different parts of his body,” he said.

The traditional ruler of the community, Alhaji Lateef Adewale, said he believed it was a bomb explosion.

“When I arrived at the scene and saw the victim, I knew it was not just an ordinary explosion. I have been a traditional ruler here for about 10 years and I have never witnessed this kind of thing before. It was nothing but a bomb explosion.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident but described the explosion as “mysterious”.He said,

“We didn’t have any bomb explosion because we sent a team to the place, led by the OC Explosive Ordinance Department of the police, and we could not see any material, item or remnant to suggest it was a bomb. But they are claiming it was a bomb explosion that cut off the boy’s hand.
“Maybe it was a mysterious explosion, I cannot tell, because we could not see any material. The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the Divisional Police Officer and the EOD should continue to investigate the matter.”
